Description
By the end of this course drivers will be able to:
· Demonstrate knowledge of health and safety principles and legislation
· Identify what constitutes a hazard, risk, and accident in the workplace.
· Describe the correct procedures to follow and the PPE to use.
· Explain how to find information and raise concerns regarding health and safety and report accidents at work.
· Explain the obligations and responsibilities of both employers and employees on and off site.
· Show an understanding of the risk and route risk assessment process.
· Demonstrate how to handle loads safely.
· Explain the risks associated with water-bound hazards and identify other potential hazards.
· Extend the knowledge of legislation that exists.
· To provide safety controls on our busy roads
· Reflect on our behaviours and of others too, and how that compromises the safety of the road users.
· Justify need to plan and operate on a clearly, defined and understanding routes.
· Understanding what to do when a detour is unavoidable.
· Understanding the costs and consequences of a collision with a bridge
· Update the knowledge of how to act/do in case of a bridge collision.
· Appreciate the attributes that make a safer driver.
· Identify driver distractions whilst driving.
· Recognise key Smart motorway indicators and signs.
· Stay compliant to protect both Operator and other road users.
· Understand what the driver can do to reduce risk of diesel spillages.
· Know to appreciate the importance of a robust tyre checks on vehicles.
· Be able to identify what is a secure load on a vehicle.
· Understand the importance of load distribution and weight thresholds.
· Understand how driving style needs to be adjusted based on the type of road and the conditions of the traffic, and how to improve road safety.
